Zero deposit finance, explained
Zero deposit finance is a loan that covers the full purchase price of a vehicle, so you pay nothing upfront. It keeps working capital in your business while the asset starts earning immediately. The trade-off is a higher amount financed and more total interest than if you paid a deposit. Several lenders on the LDM panel offer it, subject to approval.
What is zero deposit finance?
Zero deposit finance is vehicle finance that covers one hundred percent of the purchase price, so no money is required upfront. The full amount is borrowed and repaid over the term, secured against the vehicle. It is sometimes called no deposit or 100 percent finance. The structure suits buyers who would rather keep their cash working in the business than tie it up in a deposit, provided they meet the lender's criteria.
Why choose zero deposit?
The main reason is cashflow. A deposit takes capital out of the business at exactly the moment a new vehicle is meant to start generating income. Zero deposit keeps that cash available for fuel, wages, materials and the unexpected, while the asset earns from day one. For owner-drivers and growing businesses, the ability to put a vehicle to work without depleting reserves is often worth more than the interest saved by paying a deposit.
What is the trade-off?
Because you finance the full price, the amount owed is higher than it would be with a deposit, so you pay more total interest across the term. There is no free lunch: zero deposit trades a lower upfront cost for a slightly higher ongoing one. The decision comes down to whether the cash is more useful in your business or in reducing the loan. The worked example below shows the difference on the same vehicle.
With a $9,000 deposit on the same vehicle, the indicative repayment is about $188/wk. Both figures are indicative only, at a representative rate of 12.95% p.a., over a 5-year term, and exclude fees. Not an offer of finance.
Who does zero deposit suit?
Zero deposit suits tradies and owner-drivers who need a vehicle earning immediately, and growing businesses protecting cashflow for wages and materials. It works well for buyers with a strong trading history and no spare deposit they want to tie up. It suits less well those who want the lowest possible total interest, or who already hold a deposit and would prefer a smaller loan and a shorter payback.
How do you get approved?
Approval depends on your whole position, not the absence of a deposit. Lenders assess your income or trading history, existing commitments, credit record and the asset itself. A clean recent history and a vehicle that holds its value both help. LDM Finance prepares the application to present your position clearly and submits it across a panel, so the case goes to the lender most likely to approve it. No approval is guaranteed.
